About Us

engaging songs & stories of folk, reflecting life in all its fulllness

Christine Adams and Lissie Bayford is a duo of friends. Their finely crafted music is mostly drawn from the folk tradition, peppered with other influences that take their fancy and encompasses songs and tunes from the lyrical and lovely to the toe-tapping and quirky.  Christine plays fiddle, accordion & nyckelharpa and sings harmony while Lissie sings and  plays double bass, mando-bass and mandolin,  so that together they create performances that are entertaining and engaging.

Christine Adams

Christine loves to hear folk playing music together. She has for many years loved watching what happens when those who play music sit together and create more than they might do by themselves. Sometimes what happens in the space in between is magical, sometimes beautiful and it is always worth finding out what happens.

After many years of working with children and helping them to find their own love of music, she is now concentrating on playing more and teaching less, and both sides of this give life to the other.

On the journey Christine has found help in growing her own musical life from many others. Learning from Peter Knight at his Violin Masterclasses has been central to her ability to recognise that her relationship with music is essential, not only so she can help others by teaching, but also for her own self expression. Singing with Lissie Bayford has given her the gift of sharing music and songs in a way that draws the listener into the space where they can share what the song means to them. For many years playing music with Steve Harding has enabled her to learn to let go and allow the music to have life. Asking Jonny Dyer for help in working out how to make the sounds she wants on the accordion was such a good thing, as his ability to spot what might need to happen to achieve the results she is looking for is a gift. To those and others, thank you.

Christine plays several instruments and these days is mostly playing violin accordion and nyckelharpa. More about this, and about her other musical activities can be found on her own website www.christineadamsmusic.co.uk .

Lissie Bayford

Lissie has loved singing since she was a little girl, when her mum used to recall that she would spend hours sitting on the garden swing and singing to the world at the top of her voice! She went on to study music and singing with Jane Gregson & Amanda Buckland at Kingston Polytechnic and more recently has been inspired by the teaching of Maddy Prior and Nancy Kerr in Cumbria.

Lissie has sung as a chorister and soloist with many different groups at venues ranging from village halls & pubs to the Queen Elizabeth Hall & Purcell Room on London’s South Bank and has a love of the harmonies and textures created by layering voices whatever the genre of music. She featured as a regular soloist with Felicitas Chamber Choir with whom she has recorded 3 CDs.

Lissie derives a particular pleasure from her partnership with Christine as they work together on finding the secret of a song; whether arranging a traditional song, interpreting someone else’s song, or creating their own song, and then sharing that secret with an audience.

Lissie also enjoys enabling people of all ages and experience to discover their own singing voice and the joy of creating music together as she directs choirs and singing groups including Cantiana Choir, Faversham Community Choir and Lowering the Tone,as well as leading the ‘Singing Kettle’ sessions. Together with Christine, she runs singing workshops in Kent. For more details of all these please see www.lissiebayford.com

Christine and Lissie also play for social dances under the name Miss Norrington’s Notes. For more details of this please see www.missnorringtonsnotes.com
